Short Term Medical Insurance

Short term medical insurance is sometimes called temporary medical insurance.

One may purchase anywhere from 15 days to 364 days (some states have fewer days of coverage allowed) up to ages under 65, depending on the plan chosen.  Certain states allow the plan to be repurchased for up to an additional 364 days.   Depending on the state and product, this can be an extension of the current policy or a rewrite to a new policy with a new policy number.   A rewrite is not considered a renewal, but a new policy.  Premiums for short term coverage can be substantially less than comprehensive medical insurance.  These plans are for a short term need, to cover a gap or change of circumstance in life such as those listed below.

A coverage loss due to the death of a spouse, or a divorce.

American citizens returning from living overseas.

Employed as a temporary worker

No Obama Care options available.

Cobra is expensive as a choice, but if short term coverage is purchased

the COBRA option is no longer available.

Student or international student graduating.

Employer does not cover part time workers.

Employers who have a waiting period before group insurance starts.

Using  a hospital or doctor who will not accept Obama Care.

Students from overseas enrolled in a US college.

Early retirees waiting to enroll in Medicare.

Missed ACA open enrollment.

Between jobs or laid off and looking for a lower cost plan.

Staying insured before ACA coverage begins.

New immigrants to USA trying to find that new job.

Children coming off parents’ individual medical insurance, group insurance or their schools insurance coverage.

Some plans allow one to purchase coverage for all children on one application, with the oldest child as the primary insured.

Examples of what is covered include.

$ 1,000,000 or higher, and much more.

Please note the deductible and coinsurance will start over each year like most group and individual medical plans, and maternity will not be covered.  Prescription drugs may be covered but possibly only to a certain limit.
