What is considered a foreign national?

 

Foreign Nationals (FN) are defined as individuals who are not U.S. citizens or, regardless of citizenship, are representing a foreign government, foreign corporation, other foreign entity, or a foreign national doing business with a Department of Defense (DOD) component or contractor that has a business in the US.  Certain requirements will vary by US insurance carriers in this market.

 

Can you get life insurance without a green card?

The United States is built on immigration. Many are creating a life here and have the need for financial planning and protection.  A question we are often asked is “Can I buy life insurance without a green card?”. The short answer to that question is yes, you can,

along with providing other documentation requested.

Can undocumented immigrants buy life insurance?

Undocumented immigrants can purchase term, whole, universal, and no-exam life insurance policies.  A SSN is not required to apply for life insurance for undocumented immigrants, however a tax identification number will be required.

Can non U.S. citizens buy life insurance?

Yes, one can purchase life insurance in the United States even if not a U.S. citizen, as long as there is proper documentation.  At minimum a Social Security number will be required.  Most insurance companies will also require a green card or valid visa.

 

Is a foreign national a dual citizen?

Yes, the United States allows dual citizenship. If one is a naturalized citizen, there is no requirement to give up citizenship from the country of origin.  U.S. immigration law does not prohibit dual nationality. The U.S. Supreme Court also ruled that people can “have and exercise rights of nationality in two countries.
